Hello everyone!
This will be the first of many blogs on the road to retraining a retired off the track thoroughbred (OTTB) for the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP). To give you a little background information of why I'm going to be blogging is this:
I love horses, I have since I was a little girl. I always said I would never train or start horses. Then I found a job working for a great couple who needed help with their 8 horses. I never thought I would lay my eyes on such beautiful horses. When I walked into the barn to the left I see a sorrel mare, nothing fancy.... Then I get to the next stall on the right and her she is. A wide eye beauty that has unique color called Inke. She was the most beautiful yearling paint I had ever seen, and I didn't even really like paint horses! I had to have her. The thing about this yearling was, she wasn't even halter broke... She hated being caught, she didn't like being brushed. I started working with her and decided I needed her. I worked her off and paid 3 payments for her before I took her to my family's little farm. Fast forward 3 1/2 years. Inke is about to turn 4 this Sunday, she is riding, has ground manners, and is a very affectionate horse.
Inke has taught me how to learn, how to train. She has given me a passion to train horses. Why train thoroughbreds though? I've asked myself this question a lot and I can only come up with 2 answers. I like high strung horses (from my barrel racing career) and God is calling me to this passion.
I am actively training to get into the RRP. How?
I am learning all I can, practicing, connecting 2 and 2, teaching lessons, working with different breeds of horses and different style of horses. I am starting a YouTube training channel soon along with this blog. I am still learning, but I know enough to start. Everyone has to start somewhere right?
Follow me on this journey has I train, watch, learn, and prepare for getting accepted as an Amateur Trainer for the RRP makeover!
